World Hunger

The latest report on the state of food security and nutrition shows that the world is falling in efforts to eliminate hunger and malnutrition

The number of people affected by world hunger has reached up to 828 million in 2021, an increase of approximately 46 million since 2020 and 150 million since the triggering of the COVID-19 pandemic (1), according to a report of the United Nations which provides new evidence that the world is moving away from its objective of putting an end to hunger, food insecurity and malnutrition in all its forms by 2030.

The 2022 edition of the State of Food Security and Nutrition report in the World (SOFI) presents updates on the situation of food security and nutrition in the world, including the latest estimates of the cost and the affordability of a healthy diet. The report also examines the means by which governments can reuse their current support for agriculture in order to reduce the cost of healthy food, aware of the limited public resources available in many regions of the world.
